    Standing Poses

Standing asanas condition the biggest and strongest muscles of the body. All of the standing postures in this section require both feet on the mat.

    Balancing Postures

Balancing asanas can take many forms—standing on one foot, balancing on your hands or forearms, or balancing on your head and hands. Inversions are also included here.

    Seated Asanas

This section includes seated forward bends, twists, and other asanas that are done on the mat. These postures tend to be thought of as tests of flexibility, but you're still going to use some muscle.

    Backbends

Practicing asanas that emphasize spinal extension are part of a well-rounded yoga asana practice. They can be challenging, but there are some foundational backbends that almost anyone can do.
