Vinyasa Yoga Class Planner for Yoga Teachers

Build transformative yoga classes using the template builder in this book and refer to them every year as you continue to grow as a yoga teacher.

My name is Marda, and I am a 500-hour RYT. I have been teaching 5 to 20 classes a week for fifteen years. I am genuinely in love with Yoga and what it has done for my life and the lives of my students. You can check out my bio on my website: www.thepowerofyoga.yoga

Handwriting is a big part of my creative process. My favorite activity is creating transformative yoga classes for my students and writing down and bringing all the elements of my yoga classes together, teaching and fine-tuning your messaging and sequencing on the pages of this journal.

I have been teaching for 15 years, and I have hundreds of notebooks filled with choppy classes with flow sequences, quotes, themes, meditations, and doodles. Although I will go back through my notebooks, I usually have to create new classes because I still need the class plan outline complete with theme, peak poses, messaging, etc., and the epic classes I taught are gone and not repeatable. Does this sound familiar?

I created this planner for myself and new and seasoned yoga teachers to create unique classes and go back to them yearly with an effectively documented template. You may change a few things, but the bones are there for you to expand on with all the new knowledge and experience life offers.

The planner is formatted so you can lay it before your yoga mat for reference.

The LEFT-hand side page of the planner is for research and discovery.

Date/ theme/Peak Pose or body emphasis/ postures to prepare the body and Spotify playlist. In addition, a notes section lays out your message at the beginning, middle, and end of class to allow for a consistent flow of your theme throughout the class. There are many books about theming, but you need to plan it out to successfully convey the message to your students in a way that makes a remarkable difference in their day-to-day lives.

The RIGHT-hand side page of the planner is for your FIVE section class and Asanas

    The five sections include:

    1. Warm-up and Sun A asanas
    2. Sun B - flow sequence(s)
    3. Core work (abdominal exercises and focus)
    4. Peak Pose or more intense focus on a body part that was emphasized in the class creation process
    5. Final warm-down and final Asana

Two blank pages between classes can be used further to develop the theme, postures, and sequences. I always add or change my content as I teach this class. I want room for more discovery (even if it is a year or two after development). Each time I teach my classes, I dive deeper and need more space to write and get ideas out of my head and onto paper. And now, with this journal, they are recorded in an organized manner. Development is always in process.

Creating classes is much like Yoga itself. e are always learning and exploring asanas and how we feel physically and mentally. It is the process of DOING Yoga that makes the practice so powerful.
